κολοφών, ῶνος, ὁ, Gipfel, Spitze, übh. das Höchste, Letzte, der Schluß; κολοφὼν εἰρήσϑω ἐπὶ τῷ λόγῳ Plat. Legg. II, 674 c, wo der Schol. es erkl. τὸ κῦρος τῆς ἐπικρίσεως; vgl. τὸν κολοφῶνα ταῖς ὑποσχέσεσιν ἐπέϑηκας, Ep. III, 318 b, gleichsam den Schlußstein daraufsetzen; öfter bei Sp., z. B. Plut. adv. Stoic. 12. – Nach Strab. XIV, 642 von der Stadt Kolophon, deren Reiterei den Ausschlag in mehreren Schlachten gegeben haben soll. S. nom. propr. – Bei Plut. de cup. div. 7 ein Werkzeug zu Leibesübungen.
